Law enforcement in Sacramento are investigating a shooting incident that took place Saturday evening at Howe Community Park at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an unlawful assembly of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Background
Sacramento County law enforcement were first called to the park just after 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, another report was received mentioning an alleged brawl breaking out at the location.
An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, it was evident that a crowd of several hundred had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Deputies set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers instructing those gathered to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for attendees to disperse.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. Gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.
The Shooting Victims
Ultimately, four victims were found to have been shot. The four individuals — a group of one female and three male victims ranging in age through their in their early to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one had injuries classified as minor. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento fire crews provided support and helped care for shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Evidence at the Scene
The bulk of the shooting appears to have occurred Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park next to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet holes were noted in the wrought iron perimeter fencing bordering the Home Depot store. The physical evidence pointed to that a second shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Information relayed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were detained. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for questioning. Video evidence established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
